What is your current role?
Gynecologist, Urogynecologist, and reconstructive pelvic surgeon at Hampton VA Hospital (Federal Government). As well as at Western Branch Center for Women (Private, community based).
What is the best part of your occupation?
Serving and helping women of all ages with specific focus and interest in menopause.
How did you become interested in Obstetrics and Gynecology?
My mother was an OBGYN, and my father was a surgeon, so taking care of patients was what my parents did day in and day out, it was our way of life. I am very passionate about taking care of women and empowering women as it relates to their health and wellbeing.
How did you become involved with the SAAOG?
I was looking to join a diverse OBGYN group close geographically to my area, and SAAOG met everything I wanted in a group.
Explain how you benefit from being a member of SAAOG.
Comradery and learning about what is going on in our field and our area. I have a healthy curiosity to learn more and explore new frontier in medicine; surgery especially as relates to my field.
What would you like to see occur in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology during your career?
Better healthcare access for all women (hopefully not only locally but all over the world).
What are your hobbies outside of the office?
Quilting. Love art and live performances that I have to attend at least once a week, last one I attended was Michael Jackson.
What is something surprising that most people do not know about you?
That I am a farmer and have 55 acres of livestock farm that I often have to attend to, treat, and even deliver my animal when they have obstructed labor.
