What is your current role?
Second year medical student at Mercer University School of Medicine.
My passion for the case report stems from my aspiration to pursue a career in OBGYN and my desire to learn more about gynecologic surgery. Working alongside Dr. Kahrmann and my classmate Sarah, I had the opportunity to dive into an unusual and life-threatening complication in a laparoscopic hysterectomy. This case highlighted the critical importance of recognizing rare but severe complications, like bilateral tension pneumothoraces, that require rapid response to ensure patient survival. This experience reinforced my commitment to mastering both routine and emergency scenarios in OBGYN to provide the highest quality of care.
How did you become interested in Obstetrics and Gynecology?
Growing up with strong role models in women’s health, I was immersed early on in the field that would ultimately become my calling. My father, who was an OB/GYN, and my mother, a Labor and Delivery nurse, instilled in me a profound respect for patient care, particularly in Obstetrics and Gynecology. This early exposure not only sparked my interest but deepened my commitment to the field. Today, I’m passionate about the consistent patient interactions and hands-on care that OBGYN offers, with a strong desire to build meaningful connections that foster patient comfort and trust.
How did you become involved with the SAAOG?
I recently became involved with the SAAOG through my mentorship with Dr. Kahrmann. He introduced me to the organization, recognizing my interest in OBGYN and encouraging me to engage with professional networks early on.
What would you like to see occur in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology during your career?

Whether through surgical innovations that improve outcomes, enhanced reproductive health options, or more accessible healthcare for underserved populations, I aim to foster trust, comfort, and understanding in every patient interaction. Supporting advancements that align with compassionate, patient-centered care is a vision I am excited to contribute to throughout my career.
